Attitude #70 – Happiness

The Story:

“I have always believed in photography and its expressive power. I believe that photography today is a democratic gesture and accessible to everyone thanks to recent technology and the social platforms that let us share with the world a certain instant. I don’t believe that today you can speak about bad or good photography, but of the value that a photo has in catching and capturing a moment. The “Happiness” project is born with this intention; to fix an instantaneous image of a journey in the pursuit of happiness and its different shades in the eyes of a 25 year old, through a constant in our daily life: a #smartphone.” – M. Rondoni, New York City, July 2014

The Issue Theme:

Despite the innate subjectivity of this edition’s theme, we were unable to resist exploring contents which have inevitably revealed themselves to be both variable and personal, capable of providing us with moments of ‘Happiness’ that are – to a greater or lesser extent – fleeting and intense. And we have gone in search of it, in its most natural and spontaneous form.

You will notice that in this edition we have considerably broadened the scope of the sections such as Relax in Public and Interiors, with a view to stimulating exciting escapes. Contemplating the coming months when we travel to magical places around our world, we have brought together a selection intended to be simultaneously eclectic and inspiring as potential options to bear in mind when planning your holidays.

The interest to find out more about the oeuvre and work philosophy that unite father and son at the Jacobsen Arquitetura studio, with those dream homes that everyone dreams about, was not, of course, by chance.

And because our individual happiness is influenced by the quality of the ambience of our homes, we are bringing you an even greater range of interiors, from different geographical locations, which transport us to the unique kinds of lifestyles and histories we love to share. In the case of Quinta do Freixieiro (page 108), we feel that the suggestive intensity and power of the images renders our customary use of captions redundant, allowing us to ‘communicate’ more freely with our readers.

Aiming at an ever-broadening scope of topics and approaches, our Journal continues to pack in novelties, suggestions, projects and interviews through a dynamic register and as a result of having our sights trained on the world of design and art.

We leave you with some exciting breaking news: the confirmation of our presence as Media Partners in the next edition of the Dubai Design Week, from 24th to 29th October, with our September/October issue. More news soon.
